You can eat fat and carbs as long as they're the good types of fat and carbs and they're in the right amounts. I don't follow the diet plan recipes as they are full of things I prefer not to eat store bought stuff but I do take the idea and work with it. I thought that the book was full of great information, workouts and recipes.
I usually do Jillian Michael workouts instead of the book ones which are exactly what the autho its a diet book with research they pick and choose but I have done it in the past and wanted a refresher. Suddenly, losing fat in my middle became a much more important pursuit than looking good for bikini season. You eat often, and you eat foods that have lots of fiber and protein, so there is no feeling of deprivation. People who are deeply invested in a creating a healthy lifestyle, people who like research and statistics and want the knowledge and motivation needed to change their eating and exercise plans for life will benefit best from this book. I have recommended it to all of my friends- women or men. I also tried to follow the three days a week 20 minute workouts.
