But I won't have to. A book that adds on so much to a already good series. It is very understandable that Michael's character is centuries old and was raised in a time where women stayed at home cosseted and protected by their men, content to raise the children and oversee the household leaving the reins of making a livelihood to those same men. She is known mainly for her paranormal romance novels such as Full Moon Rising and Kissing Sin. She spied the stranger on the top of a small hill just in front of her and made her way towards her. As they chase through the sewers and tunnels of San Francisco and the body count begins to rise, Michael badgers her to stay off the case, but Nikki has no intention of complying. This is definitely a series that has gotten better with each book.
This mystery hooked into me skin and just dragged me through the whole story until I finished. He was wearing fingerless leather gloves, the leather oddly damp against his palm as they shook hands. I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review. As I prepare to read the last book am sorry to see the series end but eager to see whether the pair create the future together that they both long for! Well, as long as I like the writing style- which I clearly do having read the entire series back to back. The chase takes them through the sewers and tunnels of San Francisco.
Modern smartphones and computers can read files of any format. Nikki has changed a lot since the first book and I hope she will accept the person she is becoming. He wants nothing more than to make Nikki a permanent part of his life, but he knows that her quest is sure to get her killed. He had to take care of Farmer before whatever it was that had been on that glove took full effect. Michael isn't the only one aware of Nikki's new abilities, and she becomes a target. I have merely been chosen to escort and explain. Michael frowned and looked down.
That coupled with a vampire with odd, and a bit immature, reasons for murdering women and mutilating them, was 352 pages of fine reading. Two bodies returned, mutilated and drained of blood. There's the balance of creating a supernatural adventure set in the human world while making it seem possible for it to happen and for humans not to notice. She wants him to realize that she's either a full partner in his life or she's out. For a long time she's taken care of herself and lived with her life constantly in danger, now Michael wants her to stay at home, nice and safe, away from him for weeks at a time and not knowing if he will survive whatever job he's on. Micheal is finally coming home to Nikki after months away working, only to discover that Nikki is already investigating the next case he has been assigned to. I have had an infatuation with Keri Arthur from her Riley Jensen Guardian series to it's subsequent Dark Angels spin-off and now the her Nikki and Michael series.
Michael is not afraid to put his heart out there but he's scared to death of losing Nikki and he fights tooth and fang to keep her out of trouble but trouble just a knack of finding her and she's to hard headed to back away. If you choose to read them out of order, you will miss out on what happened between the two main characters, how they got together, their previous missions, etc. Nothing, however, prepares Nikki for the price she has to pay for her stubbornness — the life of someone she loves. She's tired of playing it safe and wants him to realise it's all or nothing. Michael has also been sent to investigate the same kidnappings by the Circle who suspect vampire involvement. I liked the parallels that are given here with Jake and his wife Mary trying to find their own balance after Jake has recovered from a brush with death. He's being a typical man, and not just a vampire in that he wants Nikki safe, and won't listen when she says her life is always dangerous because of what she does and who she is.
He's not happy about it but finally agrees he's the best person for the job, and although he was looking forward to seeing Nikki he now only has a few hours instead of the hoped for weeks. Abilities she should not have and cannot control. Chasing the Shadows begins four months after and finds Michael returning to the home they share after a three week absence doing work for the Circle. He wants nothing more than to make Nikki a permanent part of his life, but he knows that her quest is sure to get her killed. No sharing kisses under the mistletoe.
Abilities she should not have and cannot control. Four women have been kidnapped, ransomed and when two of womens' loved ones paid the ransom they received their mutilated corpses I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review. But nothing prepares her for the price she has to pay for her stubbornness—the life of someone she loves. But of course they want to go against the wishes of the other and sparks erupt more than once between them. There was nothing in this book or the previous ones that made out they were very close.
The romance is really well done but it is only part of the story and there was plenty of action that kept me on the edge of my seat. One man determined to avenge the wrongs of his past. I do hope Seline gets her own book. As soon as one of them is on board with their relationship the other ones starts doubting it. I'll be honest in this book, Michael is a little bit thickheaded when it comes to relationships.
